My approach
My approach to filming a wedding is documentary in essence. My aim is to be as unobtrusive as possible. I love to rely on my ability to capture genuine moments as they happen with minimal interference. I might add some direction for couple portraits and specific moments but my main focus is to capture authenticity and the events of the day as they unfold, whilst also being there to support you both where I can.

Extra Parts
You likely want your ceremony and speeches filmed and recorded but maybe there is another specific item happening - a surprise dance, a special performance, etc. This is your time to tell me so I can prepare the extra card space, cameras, etc to capture it.

Get to know me
I’m all about family. For most of my life growing, I thought a marriage and family was beyond my reach due to a gradual decent into a decade of chronic health problems. However, on the gradual ascent, I met my now wife who stuck by me, encouraged me and is big part of why I am now able to do so much more than I ever thought possible.
My own wedding in 2021 was an experience of what’s really important - a small number of guests, no evening do but day 1 of the rest of our lives together as husband and wife and now a family of 4. This is really what sparked my interest in filming weddings and capturing beyond the decor and the glitz but the people and the love story.
FAQs
-
There is a lot of work and love that goes into making wedding films and some seasons are busier than others so I ask for up to 8 weeks. However, this isn’t a target - I aim to get everything to you as soon as I can. Within the week I will send a short 4×3 highlights edit, which you can post on social media and send to friend and family.

Typically I like to carry one camera with me at all times throughout the whole day. For the ceremony, I will have 4 extra cameras setup on tripods and for the speeches I will have 2 extra cameras on tripods.
As important as camera are, good clean audio is equally important to me to capture. So I like to put mics all over the place - especially for the ceremony and speeches. Lots can go wrong so I like to have plenty of options. I’m not a fan of micing a bride as it feels too imposing. I do prefer to mic the Groom and main speaker.

There’s little that will stop me filming your wedding if I have committed to it. The weather is always one of those unknowns. The main things affected by the weather are drone shots. Wind, rain and snow are the main issues.

I would absolutely love to meet you. We can chat over a phone or video call.

Yes, please. A wedding day is long and demanding. I kindly ask that the venue provides a meal. I don’t tend to capture meal times and while it is an opportunity to catch a break from working solidly, I also use this time to backup the everything I’ve shot so far.

Only if I make a catastrophic error.
I feel a lot of responsibility and pressure on a wedding shoot. Therefore, I make every effort I can to do the best I can for all my couples.
I will be clear on what I need to do things well and deliver in our planning for the day. Timings on the day are probably the most important aspect. It takes time to set up for the ceremony and speeches so I need the time to do so.
If there is a lot of travel from location to location on the day, I may decide I need an assistant or 2nd shooter to ensure everything agreed is captured.

My standard approach tends to keep lighting to a minimal, relying on available light and my experience of what looks good.
I tend to use a single LED light on my camera for cake cutting, first dance and party vibes. I do try to avoid blinding people - the aim really is to pick on the subjects while still keeping the atmosphere - hence why I don’t blast the whole dance floor with a massive flood light!
I may bring lights out for couple portraits (mostly likely at night) or certain detail shots but only if necessary.

No, I don’t provide RAW or unedited files. If there are any further edits, such as an extra social media edit or a specific scene, I am happy to discuss this.

If you need to change your wedding date once booked, if I have the date available and it’s within 6 months, I have no problem changing the date once.
If the date is unavailable you may have to cancel and lose the deposit depending how late the cancelation is.
